US Visa Seekers Will Have To Disclose Social Media Identities

Image
Travellers to the United States will soon have to submit their social media identities, previous telephone numbers and email addresses, a measure that could touch 10 million people per year. According to a State Department plan published Friday, visa seekers — whether visitors or would-be immigrants — will be presented with a list of social media platforms. When these new rules were first suggested last year as part of what US President Donald Trump has called “extreme vetting” of would-be visitors, civil liberties groups sounded the alarm about privacy. But officials say they could identify potential extremists, such as one of the attackers in the December 2015 San Bernadino shooting — who got a visa despite allegedly advocating “jihad” on social media. The measures apply both to the DS-260 “Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Form” and the DS-160 “Application for Nonimmigrant Visa.” In the last fiscal year, 559,536 people applied for US immigrant visas and 9,681,913 fo

Tiwa Savage Files For Divorce from Hubby

Image
Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has allegedly filed for divorce from her estranged husband Tunji Balogun, a.k.a TeeBillz. According to media reports, all attempts by the couple to resolve their differences have failed, and Tiwa has decided to formally call it quit, citing ‘unsolvable issues’ as the reason for the decision.   However, Tiwa a.k.a ‘Marvin Record First Lady’, is yet to confirm nor deny the divorce issue. The embattled couple have not been together since their marital crisis in 2016; Teebillz made their marital issues public as he wanted to commit suicide by attempting to jump into the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. The duo then engaged in ‘war of words’ on the social media, as Teebillz alleged infidelity, among other accusations, on the part of his estranged wife. Tiwa, who shares a son with Teebillz, in turn granted a 45 minutes video interview to debunk the accusations. However, fans and industry watchers had assumed all was now well with the couple

Wrong Way Of Charging Your Phone

Image
We've been charging our smartphones wrong all this time Broad Techic Feb 11, 2018 9:02 PM Take note... No matter how good the battery is on your smartphone, if you're using it heavily, it will barely last you an entire day. For some people the reality is even worse, with an old iPhone 5 I used to have, if I managed to get eight hours of life from it, I'd consider myself very lucky. Things got even worse as the battery aged. But, there's a long-held belief that charging your smartphone in short bursts will cause long term damage to the batteries, and you're better off waiting until they're close to dead before charging them. But this isn't true according to a site belonging to battery company Cadex called  Battery University . They argue that leaving your phone plugged in when it's fully charged (like say, if you put it charging overnight) is bad for the battery in the long run. Once your phone reaches the desired 100% batter

Nepotism, Mother of all Corruption

WHEN President Muhammadu Buhari started crowding his government with his kinsmen, townsmen, clansmen and people of his ethnic, sectional and religious backgrounds, I was shocked that many otherwise respected opinion leaders did not see what was wrong with it. I recall that Professor Pat Okechukwu Utomi responded to our loudly-expressed outrage saying that it did not matter if Buhari composed his entire government with people from one village! Those were the days when the Daura military politician’s arrival on the stage was like the second coming of Jesus Christ to naïve Nigerians. I have long discovered that naiveté is an attribute of character, not necessarily lack of knowledge. A naïve person may have all the degrees in the world; he might move mountains with his power of oratory and project raw charisma. But if he does not understand the contexts, the mindsets and the peculiarities of the people and situations he is involved in, he will be effortlessly routed by less-fancied morta
